When I first read about the new Chinese watchmaker Neymar rebranding its watches with a new name, I celebrated. Partly because I wanted to buy one and I was never a huge fan of the Brazilian actor, sorry I mean the soccer player of the same name and partly because of the sheer font size of the brand name splattered on the face of an otherwise beautifully manufactured watch. Alas, they renamed it to Bluerx as in Rolex, sorry I mean BLWRX that is printed with an even bigger and bolder font on the watch face. While the new name has a passing go at the brand name Rolex, there is a method to the madness, as it is almost the initials of the company’s full name: Shenzhen Bo Lin Watch Industrial Co, Ltd.

As usual, this review is not the regurgitation of far more detailed reviews done by far more qualified people. This is Gizmolic’s spin on this interesting watch. A Rolex Deep Sea homage from a micro watch manufacturer in China. On that note, do not underestimate the Chinese watch making anymore. Even the likes of Seiko have their movements manufactured in China nowadays to as high a spec as those made in Japan.

The watch is well made, and with the metal band, it weights in at 225g. Yes, all the other reviews are right, it is a big watch and it is hefty, but it does wear well on an average wrist size.

So, I replaced the metal watch band for three reasons:

  • While the factory fitted band looks good and feels good, the clasp is too soft and after literally a few days of deep desk diving, it began to bruise and scratch.
  • The original Neymar clasp had the diving extension that has now been omitted, making a totally average metal band.
  • It is a heavy watch with a heavy metal band that in the sunny warm weather of California and Mediterranean seaside, where I’ll be wearing it and diving with it (no, not to 1000 meters), it will be one very heavy and HOT piece of metal around my wrist.

So, I went for the James Bond style BluShark Nato band. The same pattern as the one I use on my Rolex Submariner. 22mm is too narrow, this 24mm is a little too wide, but I still like it. The weight is now down from 225g to 142g, it is much cooler in the sun, I can dive and swim easier with it,
and the watch actually wears smaller on the wrist.

The Japanese Seiko- made movement inside is a fine and reputable movement, and in my case, the watch is +5 sec per day, if I have it crown-side down at nights. It is automatic of course, but hand windable. I must say, I really really like the subtle clicking of the winding mechanism they’ve added to this watch.

Markings other than the brand name on the watch are excellent and not just printed on. The fit and finish is good. The luminescent markers that includes the nice ceramic bezel are fine, though not fantastic. Ergonomics are good and for a big thick hefty watch it wears well. The slightly doomed sapphire Crystal is a good 5mm thick and I really don’t care if it is one or two layers bonded. It seems to have done the job.

I like this watch! At $239 from Amazon only, I love this watch. It is a lot of watch for the money.

Next to a real Rolex on one side and a Seiko Turtle, that shares a similar heart/movement, on the other side, it certainly makes its own presence felt.

If you are planning to buy this watch, pay attention to the 40mm, 43mm, and 44mm varieties. I actually returned the 43mm ver. since the internal white bezel around the face has been removed, that to my eyes looks like any other Rolex copy. The 40mm will no doubt wear very well but is double the price. I am happy with this 44mm.

But, dear Neymar / BLWRX, please please reconsider the size of that font on the watch face. It makes it look cheap. A subtle company logo or something, perhaps? I don’t think many people are going to wear this watch to pretend it’s a Rolex. I have a Rolex. This
is a very nice watch in its own right.
