Here is an unusual one for you: For a computer geek, I happen to like mechanical pencils and fountain pens! Call me old fashioned, but there is something unexplainable when I draw my designs or write some first time approaches, formulas etc. with a cool Pencil. Takes me back to my Tech. Drawing days as a wee lad, back in Sheffield, England.

Well, Mechanical Pencils appealing to a Geek don’t get much cooler than this Uni Shift. I must tell you, in the fine print it says; “Mitsubishi Pencil Co. Ltd.”. I used to use a 0.9 for a couple of years at work until one day it dropped off of my folder and started living with a stranger … So I downgraded to this 0.7 version since using any other pencil now feels like wearing leather gloves and writing with my feet!

It has a very unusual twist and turn in the beveled tip to protect the graphite when in the closed position (see the photos), known as Pipe-lock. It is a professional grade drafting pencil that is balanced and outstanding for everyday use, if like me, you prefer to take notes and draft with a pencil.

The Pencil is 5.5” in length and weighs 20g or 3/4oz, and it feels as though it is made of military grade steel, aluminum and high grade plastic. It retails for around $15 ~ $20 and comes in 0.3 to 0.9 mm versions.

I really can’t think of any negative, I think you get the idea – I like it!
